Make a difference

I was just reading my sister-in-law Janae's blog. At the grocery store one day someone she didn't know told her her hair looked good. It really made a difference in how she felt the rest of the day. It's amazing what a difference someones comments can make.

I had the complete opposite experience the other day at Walmart. I went to Walmart early last Saturday. I came around a corner and passed some guy and I hear him say "slow down". There was no one else around so he had to be talking to me. I wasn't running (maybe walking my normal pace). I was so perturbed the rest of my shopping trip, in fact most of the day I was bugged. Mainly because I still can't figure out why he thought I was going fast. I finally had to try looking at it from a different perspective and be forgiving because I didn't know his circumstance. Which I have to say took me all day. My conclusion was that he was a high school football coach (older, big, slow, and wearing gym shorts in 10 degree weather) and taught drivers ed on the side (explains telling anyone behind any set of wheels to slow down).

Anyway, my ranting is over. After looking at both stories you can see the power of words. I challenge everybody to say something nice to someone you don't know. (Pick them out at the grocery store, it seems to be a popular place). It could make their day!

Hey, I would be speeding through walmart as well. Well I guess that's becuase the moment you walk in the doors your odds of being shot go up at least 85% or so. I'm usually in & out as fast as I can.

What a great idea. Although, people talk to me here all the time. As soon as I say something to one of my kids - or they start talking - I get the standard "where are you from?" I have never talked to so many random strangers in my life. I forget that I am the one with the accent sometimes.

You are faster than a speeding toddler, WATCH OUT! Loved this post and you're right, what people say to you can make a huge difference in your outlook that day.
