I drove to the school and wanted to walk them to their classes. The girls took off the other direction and Tyler was the only one who let me follow. We waited outside while he said hi to some of his friends and then we walked to his classroom. His teacher was standing by the door and he gave her a hug and then ran in without taking a second look at me.
I walked back around and found Ashlyn still standing next to the outside door to her classroom. She didn't realize most of the kids had gone through the inside door for the first day. Her friend Ali arrived shortly and they were hugging. (It's not like they didn't play with each other several times last week) After the door opened more friends gathered around and another hugging fest took place. She is sure excited to start 2nd grade.
Next I went to the back of the school to check on Madisyn. Her class was the only one still standing in a line outside the door. I think she was trying to pretend not to see me. I thought about taking a picture, but thought she would be too mortified. I told her I came to say "hi" and she said "Okay, bye".
You would think after all of this I would be feeling pretty dejected, but fortunately I have a pretty high self esteem and I came home and found myself once again humming the tune to "I'm so excited and I just can't hide it...." I'm just glad they want to go and I'm not dragging them out of bed to try and get to school.
At the beginning of every school year on every Cosby Show, Cliff and Claire Huxtable have a little party to celebrate the kids going back to school. So, that's what Ryan and I did. I sat on the deck relaxing and drinking a cup of hot cocoa while Ryan relaxed eating a creamie. Now comes the fun part, trying to put the house back together after 3 months!
