Starting in third grade they have a Hershey track meet in the spring where all the kids in the Springville/Mapleton area (7 schools) compete against each other. The top two from each event goes onto compete at the district level. This years 4th grade meet was on Wednesday. Madisyn loved it so much last year that she had it all planned out a few days after which events she would compete in this year. (They can choose 3 events). The night before she couldn't go to sleep because she was so excited and was worried that she would somehow miss her event. Ryan and I went for the first part of the day and saw Madisyn compete in the 50m, 100m and the long jump. In the first round of the races they didn't take time but took the top 2 or 3 (I couldn't figure out how many) from each heat to compete in the semi-finals. Madisyn won both the 50m and the 100m in her heat so I knew she would make it to semi-finals. I took Ryan over to his friends and then walked back (fortunately it is just at the high school) to finish watching. As I was walking back I could hear Madiysn's named called over the loud speaker as being in the semi-finals. In the 50m semi-final she had to race against this girl that ran like lightening and so Madisyn came in third. In the 100m she came in second in her heat. During the semi-finals they took time. I figured Madisyn wouldn't make it to the finals, but I stayed to watch anyway. I guess Madisyn didn't think she would either because she wandered off with her friend Sydney. As they read the names for the finals in the 50m Madisyn's name was called. Only 6 make it to the finals. I figure her time must have been really good in the semi-finals because she had raced against the lightening girl and was trying to keep up. I ran down to video and couldn't see Madisyn anywhere. They called her name a few times over the speaker. I was beginning to stress out. Fortunately she made it in time. She ended up taking 4th place, which was so awesome because it started out with at least 100 girls. I wanted to add the video, but I couldn't figure out how to download from the video camera. I don't have still pictures either yet because I had to use a disposable since the digital one was still lost. Here is a picture though of her beautiful shoes she ran in.

They are falling apart pretty bad. They don't even have any traction on the bottom anymore. I ordered her some new ones a while ago and when she put them on they were too tight, so she had no choice but to wear these. It just goes to show that you don't have to have top of the line running shoes to be fast. Although my mom said that if she did maybe she would have won. Oh well, we will work on that for next year.
