Our Little Get Away

Our little get away was just over night, but we had so much fun, and the weather was perfect. Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Andersen for watching Ashlyn, Tyler and Ryan and the Binghams for taking Madisyn so she could attend a Writers Workshop at the high school (which she couldn't stop talking about because she got her Fable Haven Books and Chocolate War book signed by the author).
The whole purpose of the trip was to attend the David Archuleta concert in Idaho Falls. The trip started out perfect. Within 30 seconds of dropping the kids off we ran into a sign for the new Rhumbi grill in Sugarhouse. "Free Rice Bowls 11-2". The clock said 10:55, so we thought, why not stop for a free meal. I had never tried their rice bowls. I always get the same thing, VooDoo Chicken Salad, so rice bowls was an adventure.
On the way up to IF we stopped to get tires. Before leaving we noticed a screw in one of the front tires and since we were already in need of new front tires, we decided we should take care of it before we made the long trek. We spent a fun 45 minutes wandering walmart while the tires were put on.
We Arrived in IF about 4 pm. The concert was starting at 8:00 and we were supposed to be lined up in the VIP before 6:45 to receive the tickets I had bought. From there we were supposed to enter before the rest of the General Admission ticket holders. Since I had purchased VIP tickets and wasn't too worried about lining up several hours early, we decided to take our time. We checked into our hotel room.I went in to use the bathroom and about lost it when I saw this.
I've never gone into a hotel room bathroom that came with it's own telephone. Our running joke after that was "If you're having any problems, just call!"
When we left our hotel I found this on the sidewalk:
And no, I did not write this.
We went to Olive Garden and had our favorite meal: Soup, Salad & Breadsticks with Alfredo Dipping Sauce.
We Arrived at the Civic Auditorium about 6:15 and ran into this line which went about two blocks down the street and around the building.
I wasn't worried because we had VIP! I went to find the VIP line and instead found out that they had changed it and were lining everyone together. I was assured that it would work and we would be within the first 5 rows. So we made our way back behind the VERY LONG line. We passed the time by talking to those around us. We were behind some teenage girls for a while and I think Daryl is grateful that he does not have to have a calling in Young Women's. We were in line with them for a half an hour until they got a call on the phone to go up to the front (I guess one of their dads had an in) . Then we were behind a dad with his two daughters and their two friends ranging in age from 9-12. These girls were not shy about their love of David Archuleta. As the line slowly made it to the front doors we passed the tour bus. When David's guitarist passed by us I told the girls who he was. One of them said "I have to talk to him". So when he passed by us they asked him if he was really the guitar player and when he said yes they gave him five and then professed that they would never wash their hand again. It made me miss having my girls with me.
When we finally made it into the building at 7:50 we were told to go to the front of the auditorium. We started looking for seats, but couldn't find any. There were two irate ladies in front of me trying to find seats too. I decided not to make a big deal about it. I figured if we didn't end up in VIP I would just ask for the money back that I had paid extra. The irate ladies finally got a seat after getting people to move into the middle. There were still no seats for us. As the lights went out the guy in charge came up and told us to tell security to let us into the orchestra/mosh pit. We didn't have seats, but we were standing right next to the stage. It pays to be nice! We were in the pit with a few dozen teenage girls, a few boys, a handful of 30, 40, 50 and 60 somethings and a few of their husbands. The teenage girls we were standing next to in line outside were there too and waved to us.
The opener was Leslie Roy from Ireland. It was loud and Daryl thanked me for the ear plugs!
During intermission Daryl had fun listening to the fans in the audience chant Davids name. Daryl kept missing it on video when he would try. He got a little bit of it.
After intermission David came out singing "Touch My Hand". Daryl tried to get me to go up and touch his hand. I told him I would let the teenage girls do that.
I am pretty sure that David smiled and waved at me during the concert, and I turned to Daryl right after it happened, but once again he doesn't believe me. We had this fiasco during the American Idol Concert when David Cook pointed at me. At least I had a witness that time (thanks Gina!). This time I am on my own, because Daryl will never believe me. The concert went by way too fast. I was amazed at how I never heard a bad note while he was singing, even while he was jumping and moving. Daryl had fun. I even noticed him dancing. Daryl was the official photographer. We didn't get very many clear ones. I never do in fluorescent light.

I will share a few videos of the night. Our videos weren't complete songs and they didn't turn out so good, so I grabbed these off of youtube. The first one is "To Be With You" which was one of Daryl's favorites and the next one is "Zero Gravity" which has been stuck in my head ever since. It's a song that didn't make it on his album. I think they need to release it. I need a copy!

I'm so jealous but I'm not sure which part, Rumbi, David, Olive Garden or a weekend out with my husband. :) Glad you guys had a great time, Daryl is a trooper I don't think I could even talk Devin into a concert full of screaming girls.

That sounds so fun Amy! I am glad you had such a great time. Please know that I totally believe you about David... there is just something about you and the American Idol David's, isn't there? Still not sure if I believe that you didn't write "David Archuletta rocks" on the sidewalk though... sorry! ;)
