Summer Vacation: Week 6

This week kept me extremely busy.

#1 - Preparing for our Family Reunion that we were in charge of. Doing the shopping and trying to prepare and organize everything so I could utilize the use of my house so I wouldn't have to try and drag all of the food up the canyon and try to keep it cold enough in coolers.
#2 - Finishing the rag quilt for the outgoing bishopric member. The quilts were being given at an appreciation activity on Saturday. After all those people that had helped brought me the squares they had cut and sewn, I finished it up by sewing the quilt together. I clipped about 1/3 of it and then the Young Women finished the rest. After washing the quilt there were of course places that needed to be repaired, so needless to say I was finishing it up last minute on Saturday and attempting to do all of the last minute reunion shopping. Great feeling to have it finished though.

The Back

On Thursday I told the kids that we needed to get out of the house and that I was taking them to the movie theater. As soon as Tyler found out it was "Hannah Montana" he did everything in his power to get out of going. Ryan then joined in with the pouting. I had to drag them kicking and screaming out of the house. By time we made it to the theater it was already sold out. I had chosen "Hannah Montana" because it was rated G and Ryan tends to get scared in movies, especially in the theater. So after giving what choices were left, Ryan said he wanted to see "Race to With Mountain". We all wanted to see it, but I was a little worried it would be way to scary for Ryan. He insisted though that that is what he wanted to see. "Mom, it isn't real". Ten minutes into the movie I asked Ryan if he would like to hold my hand. He said no, but then a few seconds later I hear, "maybe for a minute". That minute turned into the whole movie. At the end though he couldn't stop talking about how much he loved it. Tyler was also happy he hadn't gotten away with going to friends house.

Most of the time Ryan is a busy little boy and quite stubborn, but there are definite moments where I stop and see what a sweet boy he really is and I can't forget to record those moments. A little background to this. After the bishop and his counselors were released a ward party was planned to show appreciation for all of the work they had done. The now released bishop had left out of town immediately following his release and became extremely ill, to the point that he was unable to come home for a while. A lot of prayer and fasting took place in the ward in behalf of this bishop. The activity took place a week after he returned and he was still pretty week from his illness. At the end of the program Daryl picked up Ryan and told him they needed to go say hi the the bishop. Daryl carried Ryan over. I hadn't really been paying attention, but looked up just in time to see Ryan touch the bishops cheek and then give him a kiss on the cheek. I had no idea he had even realized what had been going on the past several weeks. Just one of those sweet moments I want to remember of him at age 5.
