Over Fall Break last week we took a little day trip down to Goblin Valley and Little Wild Horse Canyon. It was nice to see that the kids could have a great time without going to an amusement park (Tyler did ask about 30 minutes before we got there what kind of rides they had, but fortunately wasn't disappointed when we said none) or being dependent on electronic gadgets (even with a 3 hour drive we left the laptop at home and the kids entertained themselves with NO fighting. For a good hour Tyler entertained himself by telling us each time one minute had passed on the clock, and this completely amused him). Our first stop was Goblin Valley. We picked the perfect day to go, blue skies and 70 degree weather. This place was a Disneyland for kids who like to climb, and I have four of those kids. Their favorite part was exploring a cave we found. We even ran into Ashlyn's school teacher while we were there. The kids had fun playing hide and seek and naming the different shaped rocks. Getting back to the parking lot with bathrooms was quite a trek, and we had to do it a few times. Stuck in the middle of Goblin Valley isn't the ideal place to be if the runs strike. We will just leave it at that.

The kids could have stayed here all day, but Daryl was anxious to get to Little Wild Horse Canyon, which is a slot canyon. When I hear "slot" canyon, fears of claustrophobia and drowning pop up in my mind, but I went along with Daryl and we had a great time. There were several spots where we had to find a little corner to scoot into so other hikers coming down could pass by us. Daryl was hoping we would find puddles of water that we would have to wade though. We did find liquid, but it was more like muddy muck then water, and it wasn't to pleasant if you slipped off the rock you were walking on and fell into it (me, Ashlyn and Ryan). A lot had the same plan as we did, as a lot of the people we saw at Goblin Valley were also hiking through the canyon.

This was a great family trip, and we are excited to try and explore other areas of Utah that we have never been. The kids were constantly asking us to take their picture so we ended up with a lot. Not all of the good, but still fun. I tried to create a video showcasing all of them. Hope the quality is okay.

How fun Amy! Hiking through the slot canyons is so much fun. I can't wait to do it again :) Glad you had such a good time.
That looks like so much fun! You took some great pictures- loved the slide show. I have lived in Utah my whole life and have never been to Goblin Valley. I need to plan a trip!
That looks fun.
Oh... and what was Ashlyn's teacher not doing at the UEA conference?
