Our first stop was Masada. We didn't take the following picture, but got it off of Wikipedia to give an idea of how high up it is. We took a tram to get to the top.
Brief History:King Herod (the King at the time Christ was born) had a large palace built at the top of this plateau. Several decades later a group of Jewish zealots took refuge there to get away from the Romans. They were able to keep the Romans at bay for a while, but when they realized that they couldn't keep the Romans from reaching the top they made a pact to all die. Since committing suicide was a sin they chose a few to do all of the killing and the last one standing killed them self. Once the Romans got to the top they found everyone dead, except for a woman and a few children who were hiding. That is how they know the story.

We visited the spot where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.
Our final stop was the Dead Sea. Daryl and I weren't sure if we would swim in it or not, but it ended up being a highlight of the trip. I have an issue about getting in water where I can't see anything, but since the salt content is so high nothing can live in it so there were no worries of something unknown touching me. The water had the most unique feel. I don't even know how to describe it. It was amazing how you could just float in it. And the mud has special healing powers. The dry skin I had between my finger completely went away. We should have bottled it up in water bottles and brought it home.

That night we stayed in a hotel in Jericho. After eating lots of tomatoes for dinner I heard it mentioned that the hotel was in West Bank Territory and so they weren't sure if we could trust the fresh fruit and vegetables. Then as I was trying to fall asleep I heard two different sounds 5 minutes apart that sounded like fireworks/missiles. (It was probably all in my head) Of course Daryl was already asleep and so he didn't hear anything. I got very little sleep that night worrying about the fireworks/missiles and wondering if would get sick from the tomatoes.
