Holy Land Tour Day 3

Please bare with me as I attempt to do this on a laptop. I feel lost without a mouse pad and the cursor keeps ending up in places I am not expecting, so if things might not make sense sometimes that is why.

Our first day of actual touring in Cairo, and wow did we see a lot. Cairo is a very interesting city. The city itself is quite dirty with garbage all over the streets and in the canals. It is also very congested, which explains one of the most unusual site I saw in Cairo. The City of the Dead. There are miles and miles of graveyard. The people are buried by families underneath these little buildings. Homeless people began to live here because there wasn't anywhere else to go and became caretakers of the graves for these families. Now there are tons of people living in the graveyards. They even have satelite dishes on top of their graveyard homes. We didn't manage to get a picture of it from the bus, mainly because it was pretty creepy.

We were able to see a lot of neat things though. Our first stop was the pyramids of Giza. We were able to go inside the middle pyramid. We had to duck down, and climb down a 45 degree angle for about 100 feet and then do the same on the other side to get to the tomb. If I had known how claustrophobic I would have been, I probably would not have done it. Once I made it to the tomb though it wasn't as scary coming back. I mentally had to push the thought of an earthquake out of my head.

We went to a rug school and learned about weaving rugs. I tried it myself.

They then gave us a "good deal" for rugs at 50% off. I think Daryl's mom's face says it all (Although I think this is a bit out of context) when we find out that "good deal" for least expensive large wool rug is $4000.
