We then visited the Tel Dan Nature Reserve. We took an hour hike through a beautiful forested area. Visiting ancient Dan and also a Canaanite gate from 18th century BC along the way.
Just around the corner from Tel Dan was Caesarea Phillipi, which is an ancient Roam City. Daryl gave a great report on it before we left the bus to look at it. It was a national holiday for Israelis and the place was packed with picnickers celebrating the day.
On our way to drive through a kibbutz that Daryl lived at for a time as a young boy we stopped at the Jordan River to see the supposed sight of the Saviors baptism . This is not a normal stopping place for the tours that Daryl's dad gives. I can easily see why. Instead of a sacred place it is a commercialized tour stop where you can buy little white sheets to wear and be baptized yourself or to just swim in the river. Those little white sheets were selling like hot cakes. Half of the people who put them on chose to wear nothing on underneath which doesn't mesh well with water. Not a very family friendly sight. The following picture shows the more modest half of those that bought the littel white sheets.
